Hand knitted baby cardigans are such a gorgeous part of a new baby’s wardrobe.
When I was expecting my babies I loved knitting them newborn hand knit baby cardigans with matching baby bonnet and hand knitted booties. It was a lovely part of the preparation process whilst waiting for their arrival. I don’t know if you know the classic Disney film The Lady and The Tramp - but I have a clear vision of Darling knitting baby booties in preparation of their baby’s arrival. I love how she knits them and they come off the needles completed! No need to sew them up! Miraculous!
We chose not to find out the gender of our expected babies, so I knitted neutral outfits in white, cream, lemon and mint shades. I chose a speckled yarn for my first born.
When my second was born and we found out she was a daughter, I chose some prettier designs which I had in stock already knitted - a hand knitted matinee jacket in pink and a lace body hand knit baby cardigan.
Now my little babies are grown - they are 12 and 10 years old now, I love to knit baby cardigans and gift sets for other imminent new arrivals - to be part of their first wardrobe and part of the preparation, along with creating beautiful baby hand knit cardigans, booties and bonnets for new baby gifts from grandparents, family and friends. Hand knitted baby clothes make such wonderful and special new baby gifts that will be treasured forever, through memories, photographs, passed down to future siblings and generations or kept in a memory box.
