This pattern is a simple repeat of knit and purl stitches to create a chequered effect.
Cast on 24.
Row 1 (Knit 4, purl 4) three times to end.
Row 2 (Purl 4, knit 4) three times to end.
Rows 3&4: Repeat rows 1 and 2 again.
Row 5 (Purl 4, knit 4) three times to end.
Row 6 (Knit 4, purl 4) three times to end.
Rows 7&8: repeat rows 5 and 6 again.
Repeat rows 1-8 three more times. You should have completed 32 rows altogether.
Cast off.
