Striped stitch

Choose any two colours you would like.

Cast on 22 stitches in colour A.

Work 2 rows in stocking stitch in colour A.

Change to colour B. Work two rows in colour B.

Change back to colour A for two more rows of stocking stitch.

Repeat this pattern, changing between colours A and B every two rows until work measures 10cm, finishing with a ws row, ideally ending after two colour A rows. Cast off in the same colour that you finished with, knit wise.

Linen stitch

I love the look of linen stitch. We alternate the colours every four rows to create a stripe but by moving the yarn and slipping stitches we create this lovely pattern.

You can use as many colours as you like for this square. I have chosen three, but you could just use two and alternate from A to B every four rows. I used grey, pink then blue on repeat.

Cast on 22 stitches in colour A.

Row 1: k2, (yfwd, slip the next stitch to the left needle, yarn back, k1) repeat to end.

Row 2: purl

Row 3: k1, (yfwd, slip the next stitch to the left needle, yarn back, k1) repeat to last stitch, k1

Row 4: purl

Change to colour B and repeat the last four rows.

Change to colour C or back to A and repeat the last four rows.

Keep repeating the last four rows changing colour for each set until your work measures 10cm ending after a 3rd row ideally.

Cast off in purl.
